Meet The Team

Dominic Cullen, PE - Team Leader
With over 22 years of engineering/construction experience, both in the US and Europe, Dominic Cullen has developed a broad and deep expertise in the field of structural engineering. Dominic has provided structural engineering services for several award winning projects, including RDIC (Rapidly Deployable Inflatable Containers), The NMAI* and AMFA*. Dominic is a seminar presenter of the AIA NY Chapter ARE structural review courses.
Nathaniel Bergan
Nathaniel joined the firm in 2012 and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York. He has over 7 years of Structural Engineering practice in the New York City area and has also completed several projects in the Hamptons, Westchester, Connecticut, and beyond. Nathaniel has been responsible for the Structural design of numerous projects ranging from large scale new construction high rise projects to townhome renovations, new residential constructions, adaptive reuse of historic structures, and also construction engineering such as underpinning and excavations.

Nathaniel is originally from Higganum, CT and has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Connecticut and a Master’s Degree from Columbia University in the City of New York.
Carlos Chuchuca
Carlos was born in Ecuador and grew up in Westchester, NY.  He attended New York Institute of Technology for his Bachelor of Architecture and NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering for his Master Degree in Civil Engineering with Emphasis in Structural Engineering.  He has over 6 years of Architectural experience in the State of New York working in residential, civic and light commercial projects.  Upon completion of his Master’s Degree Carlos took a year off to travel and volunteer in South East Asia where he designed and built a 16 ton floating house.  Carlos joined ADoF in 2014 and he is responsible for the structural design and retrofit of projects including townhouses, galleries and penthouses.  He’s currently pursuing his license in Architecture and is expected to become a Registered Architect in 2015.
Jack Daoud
Jack Daoud was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He attended NYU-Polytechnic and earned his Bachelors of Science in civil engineering with a minor in construction management in May of 2012. Shortly thereafter he joined A Degree of Freedom where his notable projects include providing temporary shoring design for emergency repairs of the O’Neill building, serving as an inspector and engineer of a 36 unit co-op at 870 Riverside Drive, and numerous townhouse renovations. He is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in structural engineering and is set to graduate NYU-Poly in May of 2014.
Laurens McKenzie
Laurens Mckenzie, joined the firm in March of 2013. Laurens is experienced in Autocad and Revit and is responsible for drafting and technical standards for all of our projects.



Michael Zgonbick
Michael Zgonbick was born in Manhattan, and raised just across the river in New Jersey. He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Delaware in May 2012. He returned to the New York area to pursue his Master’s degree in Structural Engineering at NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering. Michael joined the firm in January of 2013 and graduated NYU’s Master’s program in December of 2013. At a Degree of Freedom, Michael has designed intricate staircases in landmarked areas with the use of 3D modeling and analysis. He has also worked on a number of penthouse and townhouse renovations throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn where he utilizes Revit models as a method of communicating the structural framing to the clients.
